Mallorca: Leaving Room for the Unexpected

Mallorca has been on my travel list for almost two years now, but somehow I always ended up somewhere else. This year, I finally made the time—and I'm so glad I did.

The trip gave me so much more than beautiful scenery. I met incredible people, had meaningful conversations, and left feeling inspired in ways I never expected.

What surprised me most was the size of the island. I had imagined Mallorca as a place where you could relax by the beach for a few days, but it's so much more than that. You can spend one evening wandering through a vibrant city, wake up in the mountains the next morning, and end your day by the water. It offers a little bit of everything, and each part of the island has its own personality.

One thing I loved was the slower pace. The nightlife isn't overwhelming, which suited me perfectly. I love going to bed early, waking up with the sun, and making the most of the day. Mallorca made that feel effortless.

The neighborhoods I explored included Deià, Sóller, Valldemossa, Palma, and Puerto Portals. Honestly, I feel like I barely scratched the surface. Each place deserves an entire day—or even more—to truly experience it. But I don't mind. It simply gives me another reason to come back.

Originally, I thought this piece would be about the places I visited—the beach clubs, the restaurants, the cafés. But the most memorable part of the trip had nothing to do with any of those things.

It was a reminder of the beauty of surprise.

Do you believe in fate?

Sometimes it's difficult to believe that everything unfolds exactly as it's meant to, or that life happens according to God's timing instead of our own. We spend so much time planning every detail, convinced that if we organize everything perfectly, we'll finally feel in control.

But the truth is, we can never fully predict what our days, months, or years will look like.

This trip reminded me that life has its own rhythm. That what is meant for us will arrive when it's supposed to. If you've prayed for something—or if you've simply been honest with yourself about what your heart truly wants—I like to believe it's already making its way toward you.

Sometimes our only job is to stop standing in our own way.

I recently came across a quote that has stayed with me:

"To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all."

That line feels especially true after this trip.

Living isn't about checking off every recommendation from TikTok or making sure you eat at every viral restaurant. It's about being present enough to notice what's unfolding around you.

We try so hard to control everything—where we'll eat, what we'll see, where we'll shop, even how we'll experience a place. More often than not, we're following the itinerary of someone we've never even met online.

But what if we left room for magic?

Some of my favorite moments in Mallorca weren't planned. They happened because I wandered down the wrong street, stayed a little longer in a conversation, or said yes to something unexpected.

I left the island with one simple thought:

I don't know what I don't know.

And for the first time in a while, that felt exciting.

I want to leave room for the unknown—for the surprises, the unexpected conversations, the opportunities I could never have planned for myself. I want to travel that way, but more importantly, I want to live that way.

Open mind. Open heart.

Maybe that's where the magic has been waiting all along.
